Canvas and This Website

We will use two sites. This website holds the syllabus, the readings, the course materials for each week, and the instructions for every assignment. Each assignment page says where and how to submit it. Canvas (CourseWorks) holds your grades and the project groups, and announcements and messages from the teaching team go through Canvas, so please check your notifications regularly.

Class Meetings

We meet once a week for a single three-hour session, which mixes lecture, discussion, and in-class exercises. Five of the six classes begin with a short quiz on that week's readings, done on paper without devices. As a baseline, laptops stay closed unless I ask you to open them. This course follows the MBA attendance guidelines.

Individual and Group Work

Most of the work in this course is individual. Some milestones and the final project are done in groups of up to five students; each assignment page says which. You form your own group and join it on Canvas.

Grading

Your grade is based on the total number of points you earn, subject to the CBS elective grading curve, which applies to the overall score and not to individual items. Optional tasks can add up to 15 points, but your total is capped at 100. Details on each item are in Deliverables.

Use of AI

AI use in this course is not only permitted but required. For the milestones and the final project, use AI as much as you can. The in-class quizzes are completed entirely without AI.

Honor Code and Accommodations

All work in this course is subject to the CBS Honor Code. Course materials are for your use in this course only; do not upload them to external sites or share them outside the class without my permission. Students with documented disabilities may receive reasonable accommodations through Columbia's Office of Disability Services.
